Dropping the Ads

I have a number of blogs. My previous business model was to link them together, get critical mass, and advertise on them to make money. Well this has not made me rich. In fact, I would have made better money had I got a part time job at McDonald's. So I am starting to remove the ads from my blogs. This was a tough lesson. Hopefully it was not all in vain.

Now I do not plan to delete all my blogs. But I am scaling back the amount of time I spend posting on them. I will only post to those blogs that I enjoy working. Maybe some day in the future I shall try some other means to use them for profit. For now they shall go from being a business effort to more of a hobby.

In this respect, there probably will not be that many posts to my Micro ISV blog. My day job takes up most of my energy. So there is not a lot of me left over to developer software on the side. I am still new at my current job. Perhaps after a while things will settle down and I will have more free time for outside projects. We shall see. So goodbye for now.

FaceBloop

I was reading a blog from an old friend. Her post said her latest pictures were posted on Facebook. So I tried to click through. Silly Facebook required an account to view the pictures. So I tried to sign up. They had some weird captcha where I needed to enter two obscured "words" to prove I was not a script. The difficulty was that they were not English words. So it was hard to make them out. I can live with that.

So I tried a second time after failing the captcha. This time I got the 2 random words correct. However Facebook now thought that the e-mail address I entered had been previously used. Yes it was. It was used the first time I tried to such up and failed the captcha. I was very determined to check out the pictures of my friend. So I chose a different e-mail address. This time Facebook rejected the e-mail address. I suppose it was because some words in my e-mail address are bad.

OK. So I try and try again until I establish a Facebook account. Then I find it difficult to navigate Facebook to find pictures. At this point I give up. If these jokers make it this hard to use their services, I don't want to mess with them. I am amazed that so many people already use Facebook. Perhaps their experiences were not a challenging as mine. Being a software developer, I expect apps written for the general public to be reasonably user friendly and bug free. It does not seem to be the case with Facebook.

Hey. MySpace may be old school. And I don't use it too much. But I found it a breeze to sign up for a MySpace account. And the navigation was nowhere as difficult as Facebook. I will call MySpace an oldie but goodie.

Yahoo Search Ownage

Due to a new job, it has been a while since I have worked on any business. However I was pleased when I did a Yahoo search for my company name. Previously some company in Japan ruled the Google search pages for my company name. Now I am on top. And I have 90% of the links in the first 10 search results pages from yahoo. Something must be working right. I think it has to do with the submissions of my free applications to download sites. They link back to me. And they reference my company name.

Here is the weird part though. Apparently I had submitted one of my applications to the Beta Marker download site. I don't recall doing it. But that is not unusual since I submitted to tons of sites. I even used some auto submission software in the beginning. Here is the eerie thing. I am rated 666 by Beta Marker. Creepy right? Check it out for yourself.

I am starting to get back into posting to my blogs. Let's see if I can free up some time from the new job to get back to my own business. I hav a lot of ideas. Just need a little time to knock out some new apps and release them. Good luck to me.
